(KNZA)--A Canadian man was arrested Saturday night following a hit-and-run accident in Holton.
Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse says 55-year-old Edward William Berard, of Mitchell, Manitoba, was arrested for driving under the influence following a report of a semi-truck causing damage to a utility pole and service box at the 7-Eleven convenience store in Holton. The driver of the semi left the scene.
Shortly after, a Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy located the vehicle southbound just north of the Shawnee County line on U.S. Highway 75. The deputy observed the semi dragging something under the trailer and observed sparks coming from the vehicle. The deputy observed fresh damage to the trailer too.
Berard was arrested at the scene and booked into the Jackson County Jail for driving under the influence. The Kansas Highway Patrol assisted with the investigation. Berard remains in the Jackson County Jail as his bond is pending.
