(KNZA)--A former Elwood man convicted of the rape of a female child under the age of 14 has been sentenced to nearly 26 years in prison.
39-year-old Daniel Ray Hawkins was recently handed the sentence in Doniphan County District Court.
Hawkins pleaded no contest last month to the rape charge. In exchange for the plea two other felony counts—aggravated criminal sodomy and aggravated assault—were dismissed.
Hawkins was arrested last September following an investigation by the Elwood Police Department.
