05/15/2014

(KAIR)--Police have arrested an Atchison man who allegedly burglarized the Kex-Rx pharmacy early Wednesday morning.

According to Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson,  an investigation started right after police were called to the scene of the burglary just after 5:20. Officials worked several leads through the morning, and were able to identify 33-year-old Michael McGuire as a suspect by late morning.

McGuire was located just after 9:00 Wednesday evening when a Kansas State Trooper stopped a vehicle at the intersection of Price Boulevard and U Street for a defective headlight. Upon investigation, the driver was identified as McGuire, who still had some of the prescription drugs he had allegedly taken from the pharmacy in his possession. The vehicle he was driving was reported stolen by it's owner, and McGuire was wearing clothes, with the tags still on them, that he had allegedly stolen from the Atchison Wal Mart earlier that day.

McGuire was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Atchison County Jail.  He faces one count of burglary, two counts of theft, and one count of possession of a controlled substance.
