(KNZA)--Unemployment was down in area northeast Kansas counties in April compared to March.
The Kansas Department of Labor Friday released the April unemployment rates.
Nemaha County had the lowest jobless rate at 2.6 percent while Atchison County had the highest at 5.8 percent.
Elsewhere, Leavenworth County’s unemployment rate in April stood at 5.3 percent; Jefferson, 4.7 percent; Doniphan, 4.3 percent; Jackson, 4 percent; Brown, 3.8 percent; Pottawatomie, 3.8 percent; and Marshall, 3.1 percent.
All the figures were down from March and from April 2013.
Statewide, the unemployment rate dropped in April to a seasonally adjusted 4.8 percent. That’s down from 4.9 percent in March and 5.5 percent for April 2013.
Kansas Secretary of Labor Lana Gordon says 16,900 jobs have been added over the past year when adjusting for seasonal fluctuations.
