Unemployment Rates Drop in Southeast Nebraska Counties

(KLZA) -- Unemployment rates in Nebraska dropped in April, both at the local level and state level.

Richardson County had the biggest dip in unemployment down 1.3 percent to 3.9 percent for the month of April.   Nemaha County unemployment was down a full point to 4.4 percent, which does remain the highest in extreme Southeast Nebraska.  Pawnee County continues to have the lowest unemployment figure in the area at 2.4 percent.

Elsewhere April unemployment rates were 3.2 percent in Johnson, 3.4 percent in Gage and 3.7 percent in Otoe County. 

Statewide the April unemployment rate dropped to 3.6 percent, down two-tenths of a point from March.

Nebraska has the third lowest unemployment rate in the country at 3.6 percent trailing only North Dakota at 2.6 percent and Vermont at 3.3 percent.

Around the region Iowa ranks 7th with a jobless rate of 4.3 percent,  Kansas is 13th at 4.8 percent and Missouri ranked 34th at 6.6 percent.  ‘

The national unemployment rate for April was 6.3 percent.
