Republican Candidate for Governor Stops in Falls City

Pete Ricketts

(KTNC) - One day after the Democratic candidate for governor stopped in Falls City, the Republican Party candidate was in town on Wednesday.
Pete Ricketts won a narrow victory over Attorney General Jon Bruning and four other candidates in the Primary election.
As the general election campaign begins, Ricketts says the fundamental question in the race is how to grow Nebraska's economy.
He says he'd like to reform the state's tax system. That includes reducing the valuation of agricultural land from 75% to 65%, putting more money into the Property Tax Credit Relief Fund, and reducing unfunded mandates to county and local governments and school districts.
Ricketts says he’s also put forth plans to promote the state’s agriculture industry and manufacturing.
Ricketts says he’d meet with incoming state senators to craft tax reform legislation and says any reduction in agland valuation should be phased in over several years.   He says he's talked with Governor Dave Heinemann since the primary election and the governor, a fellow Republican who endorsed Bruning in the days before the primary, has offered his support for the general election.
Ricketts faces Democrat Chuck Hassebrook in the general election.
