(KAIR)--Atchison residents came together in the city's Farmer's Market Wednesday morning to witness the groundbreaking of a project designed to beautify the city. Joel Hardy has more.
The project, a wall that will span two city blocks, will separate the market from the railroad tracks, and will be made up of eighteen separate tile mosaics, with colorful tiles making up each one.
Atchison Art Association Executive Director Deborah Geiger says that not only will the wall create a beautiful place where people can gather, but it is also meant to represent something personal to each person. She says that “it should stand as a visual example...just as they are placing tiles on the wall one by one, you can build your life, a dream, our community, anything that you want, you can build it piece by piece”.
Geiger encourages everyone to come out and help add the mosaic tiles to the wall starting July 5th. No experience is required, and volunteers will be on hand to demonstrate how to place each tile.
