(KLZA)-- Richardson County Commissioners approved a request from Sheriff Randy Houser Tuesday, authorizing creation of a Jail Administrator position and that the salary be $2 per hour more than a regular full-time jailer. Sheriff Houser explained due to a new Sheriff taking over in January, he wanted to make one of the current jailers a Jail Administrator, divesting the Sheriff some of the workload.
Sheriff Houser said training is available at no cost to Richardson County. A Jail Administrator must be certified and there is a jail school in Colorado, the Federal Government runs which provides the training for free, including meals and transportation.
Commissioners met with Artie Lucas of Goldberg Group who presented the final feasibility study the Goldberg Group produced for the renovation of the Armory building into a jail facility. Commissioners will review the document and informed Lucas they are still waiting to hear from Nebraska Jail Standards in regards to the firms preliminary design of the facility. Goldberg representatives are to meet with Commissioners again next week.
Favorable comment was also given for a special designated liquor license for the Spirit Shoppe for a wedding reception at a rural residence on July 12th.
