WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - The Association of Equipment Manufacturers is reporting that U.S. sales of farm combines plummeted last month.
The industry group said Tuesday that the 572 combines sold in May were down slightly more than 16 percent from the same month a year ago.
Sales of farm tractors dropped more than 2 percent from May 2013, with about 23,600 sold this year. But tractor sales are up 2 percent for the first five months of 2014 with about 85,000 sold.
Combine sales for the year are down by nearly 10 percent with just 3,299 combines sold.
