Family Friendly Event Planned For Effingham
06/19/2014

(KAIR)--The third annual Faith in the Park event is set to take place this weekend in Effingham, and organizers say that it promises to be a time where everyone can have fun.

Bruce Lanter, who is one of the committee members who organizes the event each year, says the idea for Faith in the Park came about when he and others who would eventually make up the committee, got together and discussed the obvious need to hold an event where everyone in the community could come together to have some good, clean fun.  They remembered that when they were growing up, churches would hold combined Vacation Bible Schools and often shared other resources, something that has not been happening in recent years. So they started to discuss options on how they could bring back that kind of community sharing again.

Lanter says there are a good deal of activities planned, despite the fact that they are a 100% volunteer organization and money had to be raised to fund the event. He says they have been very blessed to have received some wonderful donations, which have enabled the committee to not only have the ability to bring out five different bands for entertainment, but to be able to have other activities including games for kids and ice cream social types of games that everyone can enjoy.

Lanter adds that this year, they are supporting the Salvation Army of North-East Kansas by donating a portion of concession proceeds to the organization. Lanter also encourages everyone that attends to bring a non perishable food item that will be donated to local food pantries.

The third annual Faith in the Park event will be held Saturday afternoon starting at 4:00 in the Effingham City Park.
