Scam Alert from Richardson County Sheriff Office
06/27/2014

(KLZA)-- The Richardson County Sheriff’s Office recently received a report of a telephone scam affecting a county resident.

The victim reported receiving a call from a male saying she needed to pay $299 for ambulance service, or she would not receive the service from the Falls City Volunteer Ambulance Squad.

The victim gave bank account information to the caller.

The Falls City Volunteer Ambulance Squad does not have a “subscription fee for service” plan.  Billing for ambulance calls is made to the patient after services are provided.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who is contacted by telephone about questionable solicitations to refuse to speak to the caller, hang up and immediately contact local law enforcement officials.

You should never give out personal or banking information to a stranger calling your home. Such offenses are very hard to trace and prosecute since many of these types of scams originated outside of the United States.
