The project work includes replacement of the existing concrete pavement and shoulder width that currently exists. Work on the Salt Creek and and 20th Street bridges is also planned, which will include deck patching, hand rail repairs, and new guardrail ends.
Northbound and Southbound U.S. 73 Highway will be closed to all traffic starting at 8:00 Monday morning at the north junction of Leavenworth County Road 14 and U.S. 73 Highway to the 20th Street interchange in Leavenworth during for the first phase of the project. Through traffic will detour via Leavenworth County Road/Santa Fe Trail during this phase.
Construction work will be completed in three phases, with detours provided for each phase.
Drivers should expect some delays and must allow extra time during their daily commutes.
Koss Construction Company, of Topeka, is the primary contractor on the $12.6 millon project. Work is expected to be completed in December of this year, weather permitting.
