CDBG Monies Awarded to Nebraska Communities

(KLZA)-- The Nebraska Department of Economic Development has announced the awarding of nearly $1.2-million in Community Development Block Grant funds to six Nebraska communities to undertake Phase II Year One activities approved through the Comprehensive Investment and Stabilization category. 

This category was added in 2013 to help communities in the 5,000 to 20,000 population range undertake necessary improvement projects. 
In the region Nebraska City received a $123,470 CDBG award to remove then replace concrete curbing, curb ramps, sidewalks, handrails, retaining walls, and an Americans with Disabilities Act approved ramp in and around Nuckolls Square Park.  A local match of $37,415 is required.
Plattsmouth will use a $250,000 CDBG to repair paved streets and replace water mains and make drainage improvements.  A $250,000 local match will be made. 
Other grants were awarded to Schulyer, $250,000 for street, sidewalk and storm sewer improvements;  Wayne, $215,000 to demolish six vacant and blighted structures and construct a tornado shelter and restrooms and undertake an owner-occupied rehabilitation program for three homes.
Holdrege will use $100,000 in CDBG funds to implement a code enforcement program for acquiring vacant and blighted properties, cleaning lots and preparing sites.
Lexington will receive $250,000 for installing new water lines and larger water mains as part of a $530,000 project.
