(KAIR)--A landmark that has been a part of the Atchison County landscape for nearly a century has been destroyed by the storm that rolled through the area Monday evening.
The large white barn on U.S. Highway 159, near the intersection of Highway 9, about two miles east of Effingham fell under the high winds generated by the storm, with debris scattered south into a nearby pasture.
The barn was well known for having the words “Pleasentview Angus Farm” painted on its roof. It was owned by Jeff Hoffman, whose grandfather built it in 1919.
Hoffman says that while there is quite a bit of cleanup work to be done, he is very grateful for the many friends and family that have come out to assist in the effort. He adds that he does have plans to rebuild, but is not certain when or how it will take place.
