(KAIR)--For the past several years, the city of Atchison has applied a slurry seal type material to various roads in the city in order to extend the life of the pavement. However, while that will continue this year, officials are looking at ways to improve the process.
City Public Works and Utilities Director Justin Pregont proposed to City Commissioners during a recent meeting that the city cut back on the sealing this year as they evaluate how to best offer the service in coming years. He says there is a lot of options and a lot of variable that go into different seal applications.
Pregont also proposed re striping the parking lots in the city's downtown area. He says that the parking lots are a very visible part of our community, and the striping in those lots has really worn off over time and really has not been maintained to the highest degree.
Commissioners voted 5-0 to authorize the purchase of up to $30,000 in slurry seal materials for this year's sealing projects. The advertisement of bids for a downtown parking lot striping improvement project was also authorized.
