Mound City School Bond Vote Tuesday
08/04/2014

(KLZA)-- Mound City school district patrons will be asked to approve a $2.88-million bond issue during Tuesday’s election.  Improvements the money would allow include air conditioning in the entire school, including the gymnasium, band room, cafeteria, kitchen and vocational ag rooms.  An elevator and various other improvements to help make the school compliant with ADA standards and a 100 foot x 100 foot multipurpose room  available for use by the school and the district patrons would be included.

Safety and security measures would be installed including a video entrance system; energy efficient lighting and the High School Science room would be renovated.

If approved, the bonds would be paid off in 20 years.  Superintendent Ken Eaton estimates the additional cost to run an air conditioning system would be just 1.5 percent higher than what is done now on hot days when about five fans are used in each classroom to help keep the temperature bearable for students and staff.

Mound City voters turned down bond issue proposals in 2009 and 2010.  Those proposals did not include air conditioning the school.
