(KNZA)--A Hiawatha man has been convicted on charges arising from a violent domestic situation in March that included threatening the life of the Brown County Sheriff after beating his own wife with a rifle.
Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill says Manuel Nunez pleaded “ no contest” Monday in Brown County District Court to charges of aggravated battery, criminal threat, and possession of marijuana.
In exchanges for the plea, charges of aggravated assault and interference with law enforcement were dismissed.
Sentencing is scheduled for September 8th.
Nunez was arrested March 29th after law enforcement officers responded to a domestic call at his Hiawatha residence.
During the incident, Hill says Nunez verbally threatened Sheriff John Merchant as officers were talking him out of threats to end his own life.
