WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - Russia's ban on U.S. food imports has raised questions about what impact may be felt in farm country. But in Kansas, growers have already learned to live without a Russian market.
Russia announced Thursday that it's banning most food imports from the West in retaliation for sanctions over Ukraine.
Market analysis firm Global AgriTrends said Thursday the United States hadn't been shipping beef to Russia anyway, since Russia has already been restricting imported beef made with certain growth additives.
The firm says Russia had also already banned most U.S. pork. The U.S. ships about 6 percent of its poultry to Russia, down from 2001 when Russia was buying 36 percent of U.S. poultry.
As for wheat, Russia grows its own and is a competitor of Kansas in global markets.
