Koylen Corbin McKinney
(KNZA)--A Topeka teenager will be prosecuted as an adult in a Holton child abuse case.
Jackson County Attorney Shawna Miller says Koylen Corbin McKinney, who was 17 at the time of his arrest, waived his juvenile status during a hearing Thursday.
Miller says a preliminary hearing in adult court has been scheduled for August 27th.
McKinney is charged with felony counts of aggravated battery, abuse of a child and aggravated endangerment of a child.
He was arrested April 18th after a medical call to a Holton apartment complex where a 7-month-old boy was reported to have difficulty breathing and was unresponsive.
The boy was airlifted to a Kansas City area hospital, and has since been released.
Miller says the boy suffered numerous complications from the incident, including serious brain damage.
With his bond denied, McKinney remains in the Jackson County Jail.
