(MSC News)--U.S. Senator Pat Roberts brought his message to the local area Monday, meeting with constituents in Atchison, Troy, and Hiawatha.
Roberts says his goal for the listening tour is to hear what residents have to say, while discussing issues that Congress will be considering next month. “We have some very important constitutional issues. Harry Reid wants to amend the first amendment...and I don't think James Madison's wig is going to fit him exactly. But it shows you the length that some will go to try to change the constitution on the first amendment, which is outrageous," Roberts told MSC News during his local visit.
Roberts also addressed the conflict the United States is currently involved with in Iraq, and the potential negative consequences it could bring.
Roberts will continue local stops on the listening tour Thursday, when he travels to Leavenworth for a 2:30 visit at Leavenworth City Hall. On Saturday, he'll take his message to Wamego, meeting with constituents that morning at 9:15 at the Wamego City Library.
The three term Republican Senator from Kansas defeated his challengers in the August 5th Republican primary, and now sets his sights on the November general election and Democratic opponent Chad Taylor.
