Health Alert Continues at Iron Horse Trail Lake
08/17/2014

(KTNC)--A health alert continues for Iron Horse Trail Lake near DuBois, due to elevated levels of toxic blue-green algae.
Samples taken at the lake on August 4 were above the state’s health alert threshold. Levels must test below the limits deemed safe for two weeks before the health alert is lifted, meaning the alert will continue at Iron Horse Trail Lake through at least Friday.
In addition to the health alert at Iron Horse Trail Lake, state health officials say warnings continue at Willow Creek Lake in Pierce County and Swan Creek Lake in Saline County.
New alerts were issued last week for Bluestem Lake in Lancaster County and Oliver Lake in Kimball County.
Swimming beaches at the lakes are closed while the alerts are in place. Boating and fishing are permitted, but visitors to the lakes should avoid activities that could result in accidentally swallowing the water and to avoid activities that involve contact with the water.
Other outdoor activities like picnicking, camping, and hiking are also permitted.
