(KAIR)--An Atchison man was arrested Friday after receiving a package in the mail that allegedly contained around nine pounds of marijuana.
Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson says the arrest was made after a joint investigation was conducted by his department and the United States Postal Inspector's office.
Postal authorities first discovered the package in the central post office in Kansas City, and determined that it contained what appeared to be marijuana.
The Atchison Police Department was contacted, and surveillance was set up on both the alleged recipient, 25-year-old Michael Vasser, and the suspected destination of the pot.
Vasser allegedly received the package Friday afternoon, placed it in his vehicle, and left the scene. However, he was stopped by law enforcement officials a short time later at the intersection of K-7 and Harper Drive and taken into custody.
Vasser is facing a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. He remains in the Atchison County Jail.
