(KNZA)--Brown County will seek funding through a new Kansas Department of Transportation program designed to reduce the number of deficient bridges across the state.
The Brown County Commission on Monday approved an application for funding to replace a bridge northwest of Morrill on Bittersweet Road and a bridge west of White Cloud on 310th Road.
Under the program, engineer Tom Bennett with BG Consultants says the county would be eligible for up to $160,000 in state funding for the replacement of each bridge. The county would be required to provide a 10 percent match.
Bennett says KDOT is to select projects for funding next month.
Following an executive session, the Commission voted to hire Doug Bletcher, of Fairview, to fill a vacancy on the District 3 road crew.
Bletcher, who previously worked for the county, was among two candidates interviewed.
He will begin work September 22nd.
