(KLZA)-- The Richardson County Commissioners have authorized an acquisition contract with Charles and Gail Mack for the Verdon Northwest Bridge project. The action occurred during the Board meeting this week.
Commissioners will review with the County Attorney, a request from Sheriff Randy Houser to hire his wife, Julie Houser as a full-time dispatcher/jailer. Sheriff Houser informed Commissioners that she has the necessary training and is completely qualified. A request was also made to approve hiring Leslie Simmons as a part-time employee. Simmons does not reside in Richardson County. That request was approved.
Commissioners went into executive session with Sheriff Houser and David Clark for approximately 10 minutes to discuss personnel matters.
A quarterly Safety Committee meeting was held. Sheriff Randy Houser reported an employee fell down the stairway in the Jail September 1st and was off work for two weeks due to a minor injury. Review is ongoing to prevent this from happening again. The Sheriff indicated that having two persons on duty at all times would make for a safer working environment for the jailer/dispatchers.
Highway Superintendent Scott Huppert and Sheriff Houser reported radio reception has been poor from time to time despite improvements that were made.
Discussion was held on needed improvements to the yard and grounds of the Courthouse. Huppert reported he has inquired on getting an estimate for the repair of the steps on the south side of the Courthouse.
