Falls City Council Approves Planning and Zoning Document
10/07/2014

(KLZA)-- Following a pair of public hearings Monday night the Falls City Council voted 7-0 to approve the Comprehensive Development Plan as recommended by the Planning Commission as well as the Zoning and Subdivision Regulation as recommended by the Planning Commission.

In September an issue with warehousing was brought to the Council’s attention when Harmon’s OK Tire Store placed racks outside of a building the company purchased at the corner of 19th and Stone Street to store wheels on.  From there the topic expanded to the company using a building in the 1800 block of Stone Street as a warehouse for tires.

Keith Marvin, of Marvin Planning Consultants described the solution suggested by the Planning Commission, which will allow warehousing of automotive parts storage enclosed as a conditional use in the downtown area.

During the public hearing, Galen Harmon who owns the business with his brother Melvin spoke.  Harmon said their business, which recently celebrated 75 years of doing business in Falls City, is a better fit for the downtown area than some other possibilities.  Harmon said the company wants to continue to expand, and won’t allow their places to look junky. He said they are willing to make even more improvements to the appearance of the former Edde Motors Building, noting a number of structural improvements already made.

With the approved change to the regulations, warehousing will become a permitted conditional use, which requires approval by the Council.
