Atchison Post Office Receives Funding For Masonry Repair
10/13/2014

(KAIR)--The United States Postal Service has including funding in their 2015 budget to repair the masonry on the historic Atchison Post Office.

Republican United States Senator Jerry Moran met with Atchison's City Manager in August of 2011 to address the issue. He says “we have been talking to the Postal Service since then. It has always been a problem, I suppose of money, although they have indicated that it is difficult to find the necessary stone masons who can repair this historic building in the way that it needs to be handled”.

Moran adds that he is satisfied with the plan to make the needed repairs to the historic building. He says that “it is a beautiful building and we are glad to see that some common sense has arrived at the Postal Service and they are ready to do what needs to be done to continue it's beauty, and to make certain that the folks who utilize the post office in Atchison are safe when they do so”.

According to a release from Moran's office, a building contract will likely be awarded sometime in December, with construction possibly starting in Spring of next year.
