(KNZA)--Timed with the five-year anniversary of the disappearance, and ultimate death, of rural Horton resident Patricia Kimmi, her family has planned a self-defense class in her honor.

Kimmi disappeared in November of 2009, with her remains later found on farmland in rural Nemaha County. Her accused captor, and murderer, Roger Hollister has since died in prison.

Kimmi's family wants to remember their mother by offering the defense class to help others help themselves should they find their lives in danger.

Son Gene Kimmi says the free November 15th  class is open to anyone. “It's something that we've been wanting to do for several years now. My son, [Kyle] kind of stepped in this year [and helped with planning.],” Kimmi tells MSC News. “I think it's something just to be able to give back to the community, and I think it's really going to help, in my opinion, high school kids, college kids, women who are on their own. It's not pointed towards any certain group, it's open to anybody.”

The class, which will divided into a morning and afternoon session, will be led, and taught, by those members of law enforcement who helped solve the mystery of Kimmi's disappearance. “Don Hughes, from the [Kansas] Highway Patrol is one of the main ones that we're setting this up with, and we've invited other officers and everybody in to help with it. Kind of ties everything together with doing it in Mom's memory and them being able to help with it.”

Class size is limited to the first 30 registrants for the two sessions, with the first running from 9 to 11:30, and the second planned from 1 until 3:30, at the Horton Blue Building this coming Saturday.

To register, email Kyle at kyle_0@live.com or call Gene at (785) 548-7333.
