(KLZA)-- The Falls City Police Department is warning the public of yet another attempted internet scam.
A Falls City resident contacted the Police Department after receiving an e-mail that they had won the “End of Year Lucky E-mail Promotion”, through Yahoo and MSN Windows Live, through the Standard Bank of South Africa.
As the winner, the recipient would receive $820,000 but needed to provide their name, physical address, and other various tidbits of personal information. And, the winner was to keep the fact they had won quiet and not tell anyone.
Assistant Police Chief Jamie Baker noted, most people are now aware, if you are told you need to send money to receive an award, it is a scam. Now, the scammers are just trying to get you to provide personal information.
The Assistant Chief said that if you were really a prize winner, the company would already know your name.
As per usual, the e-mail comes from an overseas address and there is really nothing local authorities can do but help make the public aware of these scam attempts.
