(KMZA)--Area residents are reporting that phone calls are being received from someone claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service demanding money.
Nemaha County Sheriff Rich Vernon says the claims aren't for real, with the calls determined to be a scam. “In this scam, a caller calls your residence and informs you that he is from the IRS, and that you owe money to the IRS, and that if you do not send money immediately by wire or by credit card, that they will be suing you. This is completely a scam.”
Vernon says if such a call is received, do not provide any personal information, and report the scam attempt to local law enforcement.
