Squaw Creek Refuge Eagle Days Dec. 6 & 7

(KLZA)-- Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge announces the annual Eagle Days celebration scheduled for Saturday, December 6, and Sunday, December 7.

 
This 36th consecutive festival dedicated to the Bald Eagle is a very popular event. Visitors are able to visit wetlands in the majestic Missouri River valley. Squaw Creek NWR provides easy access to wildlife particularly Bald Eagles from your car on the auto tour route or hiking on one of four trails. 
All presentations and exhibits are free to the public.
 
Eagle shows on Saturday, December 6th, will be from 9A-M to 3P-M, every hour on the hour.
 
 Free guided bus tours on Saturday, December 6th will be each half hour from 9:30A-M to 3P-M.
 
Saturday only from 8:30 A-M to 4P-M. A free shuttle bus will be available from satellite parking lot, located on the corner of Highway 159 and Exit 79 near Interstate-29.
 
Eagle Shows on Sunday, December 7th, will be from 11A-M to 2P-M, every hour on the hour.
 
Free guided bus tours on Sunday, December 7th will be every hour from 10A-M to 3P-M.
 
he Dickerson Park Zoo, from Springfield, Missouri, will bring captive eagles for special programs and live shows which will be held in the refuge maintenance building beginning each hour starting at 9A-M on Saturday and 11A-M on Sunday. There will also be a number of special eagle exhibits in the refuge visitor contact station. 
 
Volunteers will staff eagle viewing stations with spotting scopes along the refuge auto tour route to help visitors see bald eagles and other wildlife on the refuge. Refuge staff will give guided bus tours along the auto tour route both days. Bus tours will leave from the visitor contact station. An eagle video, Where Eagles Soar, will be shown in the auditorium complimenting many exhibits for children and adults.
 
The Friends of Squaw Creek will host a concession stand providing food and beverages from 9A-M to 4P-M on both Saturday and Sunday. 
In addition to activities on the Refuge, on December 6 The State Theater Arts Council will be hosting Christmas on State Street. This event consists of family friendly holiday activities being held in down town Mound City from 2:00 P-M. until 6:00 P-M.
 
Eagle Days’ alternate parking for passenger cars and groups will be provided at the Squaw Creek Eagles Nest Truck Stop which is located on the corner of Highway 159 and Exit 79 off of I-29, just 3 miles away. A free shuttle bus will be available on Saturday only from the alternate parking lot to the Eagle Days event.

Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge is located five miles south of Mound City.
 
Eagle Days is a cooperative venture with Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), Remington Nature Center from Saint Joseph, combined with partners such as, Loess Hills and Osage Trails Missouri Master Naturalists, Missouri Western State University’s Student Chapter of The Wildlife Society, Northwest Missouri State University, Midland Empire Audubon Society, Friends of Squaw Creek and Missouri Department of Transportation.
