USD 409 Reflects On First Half Of School Year
12/02/2014

(KAIR)--The school year is nearly half over, and the Atchison USD 409 Board of Education is looking to finish the year strong while looking back on a successful first half.

Superintendent Susan Myers says there is a lot to be excited about, including increased enrollment across the district. Officials have been monitoring that enrollment trend, and rates had been declining in the past due to birth rates, but this year there was an upswing. She warns that the district has not officially audited yet, but they still believe that in the end, the numbers will be higher than last year.

Myers adds the district's budget looks good now, but the board is keeping a close watch on what may happen during the upcoming state legislative session, scheduled to start next month.

Myers says that if no mid year cuts are made from state aid, then she is very optimistic about what they have planned for the district. However, if cuts are made, then there could be some cause for concern. Though it is a bit too early to speculate on what could happen.
