(KNZA)--A Doniphan County bridge project has been placed on hold.
Road Superintendent Bob Edie informed County Commissioners on Monday that work on a bridge located at 215th and Mineral Point Roads had been put on hold by Engineer David Beach with Manhattan-based Schwab-Eaton. Beach expressed concerns with previously approved temporary repairs and suggested a new pier be set to support the bridge, increasing the load rating from 3 to 6 tons.
A cost estimate will be obtained from Husker Steel for the placement of the pier.
Commissioner David Van Laar, citing the Kansas Association of Counties, said out of Doniphan County's 109 bridge structures, 41 are deficient according to recent inspections by the Kansas Department of Transportation.
Doniphan County has received funding through KDOT to replace three of the structures in 2015.
In other business, Commissioners voted 2-1 to grant pay increases as budgeted for 2015 with the exception of hourly employees and non-elected appointed officials. Commissioner Jerry McKernan cast the lone no vote.
Discussion was held regarding raises for hourly employees and non-elected appointed officials, but no action was taken.
