(KNZA )--Formal charges have been filed against a Hiawatha teen in connection with two business burglaries and an attempted business burglary this past weekend.
18-year-old Dalton Herwig has been charged in Brown County District Court with nine counts—including two felony counts of burglary, one felony count of attempted burglary, two counts of misdemeanor theft, three counts of misdemeanor criminal damage to property and a misdemeanor count of minor in possession of alcohol.
Herwig made his first appearance in a Brown County courtroom Friday morning to hear the charges. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for December 10th and bond set at $40,000.
Herwig is accused of breaking into Davies Oil and Nigus Liquor and attempting to break into Henry Liquor sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday morning. Taken from Nigus Liquor was numerous bottles of liquor, beer and bags of ice. Taken from Davies Oil was several carton of cigarettes and food items.
Entrance was gained to the businesses by breaking out windows.
Herwig was arrested Tuesday following an investigation by the Hiawatha Police Department and citizen tips. Two juveniles also face charges in connection with the burglaries.
Herwig remains in the Brown County Jail.
