(KNZA)--The deal is finalized, and the commitment to bring new life to the City of Horton moves forward.
That comes as the purchase of several downtown business buildings is finalized by nationally known businessman, and television host, Marcus Lemonis.
Seen weekly on MSNBC's The Profit, Lemonis took an interest in the city when the story of an elderly businessman, arrested and jailed a day after last Christmas due to the state of his downtown building, went viral.
Following his probe into the issue, Lemonis learned of the dilapidated state of the Brown County community's downtown business district and went to work to offer assistance.
A visit to Horton last January served as the catalyst to launch the underway Reinvent Horton campaign, complete with committee oversight, as a community-wide initiative in bringing new life to the city.
On Tuesday, Lemonis, in an online post on Twitter, announced that his purchase of the buildings, which he committed to in July, has been finalized. The wait for finalization followed what Mayor Tim Lentz said was the businessman's desire to see additional progress made in the revitalization effort prior to finalization.
In his tweet, Lemonis calls the progress so far “a great story with only the first chapter done.”
