Nemaha NRD Board Seats Open in Falls City and Nebraska City
(KLZA)-- The Nemaha Natural Resources District is looking for someone to fill a few vacancies on its board of directors. As of January two positions in Nebraska City and two positions in Falls City are vacant since no one ran for the jobs during the November, 2014, general election.
The NRD’s board of directors will accept written applications from interested, potential directors. Applicants must be registered voters who also meet all other eligibility requirements for holding an elected office. They must also reside within the appropriate boundaries of the position sought.
All positions are two-year terms, due to a recent change in state law that requires any position vacated within the first 19 months of the term to come back up for election in the next election cycle.
Twenty-one members serve on the Nemaha NRD board and represent 10 subdistricts, two directors per subdistrict, who are elected in alternating election years.
In Falls City there are two vacancies, both within Subdistrict 10; and this subdistrict encompasses all of Falls City but no rural areas. Jim Gerweck has been one of the representatives in this position after the board appointed him to fill out the term of Ted Godemann following his resignation a year ago. Though Gerweck was appointed last spring to fill out the term through the end of 2014, unfortunately it was too late for him to file for re-election to that spot. The other vacancy in Subdistrict 10 was held by Bruce Walker, who chose not to run in this year’s election.
In Nebraska City the positions available include one in Subdistrict 4 and one in Subdistrict 5. Subdistrict 4 was previously represented by John Albrecht until his death in September left that spot vacant. It includes a portion of southern and eastern Nebraska City as well as the rural area in McWilliams precinct and the towns of Talmage and Lorton. Dan Hodges is the other director in Subdistrict 4. Subdistrict 5 includes the remainder of Nebraska City and is entirely within Nebraska City. Dave Guhde is the other representative in Subdistrict 5.
Nemaha NRD board meetings are held in Tecumseh on the second Thursday of each month, generally in the evening. Board members are eligible to receive $65 per diem and reimbursement of mileage and other expenses incurred while conducting NRD business.
Individuals interested in these positions should address a letter requesting appointment to the Nemaha NRD Board of Directors, 62161 Hwy 136, Tecumseh NE 68450, no later than Friday, January 9, for consideration at the board’s regular monthly meeting on January 15. For more information, contact the NRD at (402) 335-3325.
