Soil Health Workshop Set in Seneca

Nemaha County Conservation District will sponsor a Free Soil Health/Cover Crop Workshop that is planned for Wednesday January 14, 2015 at the Nemaha County Community Building 1500 Community Drive Seneca KS. 

 Registration begins at 8:30 am and the Workshop will start at 9 with a welcome, introductions and followed with a Presentation and demonstration by Kris Ethridge of the Natural Resources Conservation Service Area office in Manhattan. Kris will speak on the benefits of using cover crops as well as NRCS programs related to cover crops, and cover crop selection. Dr. Deann Presley, Assistant Professor of Agronomy & Soil Management at KSU will also share some information and data she has collected on Cover Crops and soil health.  Bob Kelly, Ag Business Specialist at University of Missouri Extension will talk about Cover Crops Economics. The USDA Risk Management Agency of Topeka will be speaking about Cover Crops and the Effects of Crop Insurance. 

Lunch will be served at 11:45 catered by Home Cookin’ of Seneca.  Lunch is sponsored by Nemaha County Co-op.

After Lunch, A selection of local producers who have incorporated Cover Crops into their operation will be available for a producer panel discussion.

 There will be booths set up from our local Seed Companies to visit about Cover Crops.
