Richardson Co Board Discusses Architect Contract for Jail Project
01/07/2015

(KLZA)-- Richardson County Commissioners met with County Attorney Doug Merz Tuesday to discuss the architectual agreement for the proposed jail project.

Merz had previously raised concerns about a contract proposed by Prochaska & Associates for the proposed jail project at the former National Guard Armory building on the west edge of Falls City.

Merz is concerned about the amount the County could be charged by the architectural firm if at some point down the line the County decides not to proceed with the jail project.

In 2014 Richardson County has paid Prochaska and Associates $100,918 for various work on the proposed jail project.  The contract sent to Richardson County is for an 8.5-percent commission on the total cost of the project which is estimated to cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $2.5 - $3-million.  That would come to well over $200,000.

Commissioners asked Merz to continue to work with the Prochaska group to narrow down what dollar amount would be owed to Prochaska if the project were to be terminated.  Board members want more solid information prior to signing the contract.

Commission Chairman David Sickel said the County has already spent enough on the project that it would be a shame not to go forward with it.
