(KNZA)--A long planned addition to the city of Holton is set to become a reality, as a groundbreaking is now planned for a new 32 unit affordable senior apartment community.
Prairie View Senior Residences will be built at 1st and Pennsylvania, and was realized through the efforts of Homestead Affordable Housing, where Tom Bishop serves as President and CEO. “Bringing additional senior housing to Holton and Jackson County is going to make a significant difference here,” Bishop tells MSC News. “I think when we have seniors that have a place to retire affordably and stay in this community instead of needing to go to Topeka, or another metro environment, it will make a great difference. The quality of life here is better and they'll be closer to family.”
The brief groundbreaking will happen Monday at Noon at the future location of the apartment community. Among dignitaries confirmed to attend are U.S. Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins.
A reception will follow immediately at Homestead Affordable Housing, where special recognition will be given to Holton Boy Scouts who are building raised bed gardens as a Martin Luther King Service Day event.
