Marysville Buys Old Depot
01/19/2015

(KMZA)--The former Union Pacific depot in Marysville has been saved from the wrecking ball.

The Marysville Advocate reports the City Council last week gave final approval for the mayor to sign the contract for the purchase of the old depot and surrounding property from Union Pacific Railroad for $150,000.

The depot's purchase comes after a lengthy  negotiating process with the railroad.

The city plans to to sell the depot to the Marysville Preservation Society for $20,000.   The Preservation Society plans to continue raising funds to restore the building for community use.

The Union Pacific Railroad will pay up to $177,000 to abate the depot's asbestos and lead paint.  No date has yet been set for the abatement work.
