(KNZA )--The Hiawatha Police Department is investigating several storage unit burglaries, and is asking for the public's assistance.
Police Chief John Defore says the break-ins were reported Tuesday at storage units located on North 1st Street and West Oregon Street. The burglaries are believed to have occurred in the last few days.
Defore says at least two storage units were hit at both locations. Bolt cutters were used to cut the locks on the storage units in order to gain entry.
Defore says the police department is asking for the public's help in monitoring the areas for suspicious activity. In addition, he says residents are reminded to keep all belongings locked up and out of site.
Defore says similar burglaries have been reported in other area communities along U.S. 36 Highway in recent days.
Anyone with information on the break-ins is urged to contact their local law enforcement agency.
