(KMZA)-- When Nemaha County voters go to the polls April 7th to elect municipal leaders and school board members, they will also decide if a new one-half percent retailers sales tax should be imposed to support health care services in the county.
The County Commission on Monday adopted a resolution placing the sales tax question on the ballot.
Representatives of the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital and Sabetha Community Hospital requested that the commission submit the question to voters.
Proceeds from the sales tax would be divided between the two hospitals, 55 percent to the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital and 45 percent to the Sabetha Community Hospital.
The funding would be used by the hospitals for capital improvements, equipment upgrades and general operating expenses.
If approved, the sales tax would begin July 1st of this year and be in effect for ten years.
