(KNZA)--The Prairie Hills USD 113 Board of Education met in special session Monday evening to discuss the district's finances.
Superintendent Todd Evans provided an update on the district's financial picture, saying the district is facing a projected budget shortfall of around $585,000 for the 2015-16 school year.
As part of the financial update, Evans shared with the board a list of potential budget cuts totaling nearly $484,000 which he compiled after receiving input from the building principals.
The board discussed the financial information and enrollment data along with ways to decrease expenses and increase revenue to the district. The board saw financial information on different scenarios with partial closures to Axtell and Wetmore.
Evans said he wants to have a plan to keep schools open, one that reflects the viability of having an attendance center in the communities.
The board held an executive session to discuss potential staff reductions but took no action.
Evans and Axtell Principal Lucas Dalinghaus will present the financial information during a public meeting Tuesday evening ( Feb. 3rd) at 7 at the Axtell school. Public meetings may also be scheduled in the Wetmore and Sabetha communities.
