(KNZA)--An Everest Middle School 7th grade student is named the champion of the Brown County Spelling Bee.
Elainie Vanderweide captured first place during the competition Wednesday at the Hiawatha High School gymnasium.
Fellow Everest Middle School 7th grader Hunter Gamino took second place.
Nine students from the Hiawatha Middle School, Everest Middle School and Horton Elementary School participated.
Both Vanderweide and Gamino will now compete March 7th in the Topeka Capital Journal Regional Spelling Bee in Topeka.
The winner of the Regional Spelling Bee will win an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. for the Scripps National Spelling Bee at the end of May.
