(KMZA)--The Nemaha County Commission has adopted a Neighborhood Revitalization Plan in an effort to spur new construction in the county.
The action came following a hearing Monday.
Commission Chairman Dennis Henry said there’s a shortage of housing in the county. He says the Commission feels they need to offer incentives to promote the building of homes in the county and be competitive with surrounding counties.
The plan provides a 65 percent rebate of increased taxes on commercial, retail and residential improvements over a five year period.
There is no minimum increase in appraised value to qualify. There is a $35 one-time application fee, and five percent of the property tax rebate will be retained by the county for administrative costs.
The plan will take effect April 1st.
The Nemaha County cities of Sabetha, Seneca and Wetmore currently have their own revitalization plan in place.
