(KAIR)--Atchison's 32nd annual St. Patrick's Day parade is set to take place Saturday, and organizers are hard at work putting the final touches on the event.
Parade planning committee member Janie Pickman says the parade is scheduled to start at 2:00 near the intersection of Fourth Street and Commercial Street. However, several events are taking place before then. The Atchison Elks will be selling corned beef and cabbage in front of the Elks Lodge starting at 11:00. The parade's Grand Marshall, will be crowned at noon, and the parade will start to line up at 12:30 before judging starts at 1:00.
Pickman says the parade will travel it's usual route going north to Kansas Avenue, then turn West to Seventh Street before going south to Commercial Street, before heading west to Ninth Street, ending at Memorial Hall.
Those participating in the parade this year will have to first register at Independence Park, near Atchison Street and River Road. They will be given a number and escorted to their place in line. Pickman says the process was added this year in an effort to alleviate some of the confusion in the parade preparation.
