(MSC News)-- The Kansas Highway Patrol issued a total of 875 citations during the recent annual seatbelt enforcement campaign conducted around area high schools.
The Patrol joined other law enforcement agencies across the state in participating in the campaign February 23 through March 6.
The Patrol issued 265 teen seat belt citations; 344 adult seat belt citations; 42 child restraint citations; and 224 other citations for such offenses as driving while suspended, texting and speeding.
The seatbelt enforcement is conducted in conjunction with the Kansas Traffic Safety Resource Office, KDOT, and the Kansas SAFE (Seatbelts Are For Everyone) program.
Patrol Superintendent, Colonel Mark Bruce, says “much progress has been made in improving the rate of compliance with the state’s occupant protection laws, but much work remains to be done.”
Last year in Kansas, thirty-four teens were killed in crashes, and 63 percent of those victims were not properly restrained.
