(KAIR)--The Atchison Attackers Youth Volleyball club is hosting a free self defense class for high school age girls Wednesday evening.
Club Coach Todd Dulac says he was inspired to organize the event after his daughters attended a similar class in Horton last November. It was presented by the family of Patricia Kimmi, who died after being abducted from her rural Horton home.
The class will be taught by Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Don Hughes, who says it will be divided into two parts. The first half will focus on how not to be a victim, being aware of your surroundings and tips for safe travel. The second half will be hands on, with participants learning how to effectively kick and punch.
The class will take place in the Atchison High School gym, and is scheduled to run from 6:00 until 9:00.
All high school age girls from across the local area are invited to attend.
