(KNZA)--The Doniphan County Commission has approved a five-year lease agreement for the new building that will become the home of the Wathena Keen-Age Senior Citizens Center.
The Commission voted 2-1 Monday to enter into the agreement with the Bellemont Cemetery Association for the building at 302 North 4th Street in Wathena. Commissioner Timothy Collins cast the lone no vote.
Doniphan County will pay the monthly utilities, liability and property insurance, along with property taxes if the building isn’t deemed tax exempt by the Kansas Board of Tax Appeals.
The Masons will use part of the building.
The Wathena Keen-Age Center constituents held fund raisers to purchase the flooring for the new building. They will work with the Masonic Lodge and Bellemont Cemetery Association on installation.
The Keen Age Center relocated to an unoccupied building at 1009 Vernon Road in the late summer of 2013.
