The 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games will be Los Angeles, California this summer. A large tradition of Special Olympics is lighting the torch from the Flame of Hope to declare the games open.
For the World Summer Games, a Unified Relay across America has been planned with three simultaneous routes. Each flame will start its journey on the east coast and travel west where all three routes will become unified in Los Angeles on July 10.
The Central route will pass through Kansas two separate times. The Torch will arrive June 16 leaving June 17, then will arrive again June 23 and leaving June 24. Cities the torch will travel through are Holton, Topeka, Lawrence, Kansas City KS, Mission, Roeland Park, Wichita, Pratt, and Dodge City.
Kansas is asking you to be involved. Anyone can be a torchbearer. Register as a team or individual in the once in a lifetime event. Engage your friends, family, company, co-workers and community to raise funds and join in the spirit of the Unified Relay.
Segments are: a half-mile run/walk/jog or a 5 mile bike ride. A minimum fundraising donation of $1000 is required per regular segment per team and $2500 per premium segment per team. A team consists of up to 15 people. For every $1500 raised, teams will receive a commemorative torch.
