(MSC News)--A horseback cowboy caught the attention of local residents last week as he made his way through the area.
Tye Sturgeon, a cowboy from Batesville, Arkansas, is making his way across the country in an effort to raise money for Western Wishes, a non-profit organization that grants wishes to terminally ill children. “It's a really wonderful thing,” Sturgeon tells MSC News. “If [a child has] a professional bull rider that's their favorite bull rider, they can introduce them to him. It's just a great thing all the way around. I get to meet kids here and there, you know. It's just a blessing for me to be able to do it, too.”
Sturgeon, who has been on the road with his horse, Edward, for approximately a year, expects to complete his journey in about three and a half years, and says he enjoyed his time in Kansas. “I think it's beautiful out here,” Sturgeon says. “Y'all got just the right amount of trees, it's a little bit hilly, but you can see forever. It's real pretty country. I like it.”
Sturgeon's Kansas stops, including overnight stays in Netawaka and Effingham, came late last week, with his journey earlier in the week taking him through local area Nebraska communities, such as Auburn.
You can follow Sturgeon's ride on Facebook, Instagram, and Twittter.
